Yesterday evening I sat down with Ryan at Praxis Behind the Obscure to discuss Mastering the Thirty Aires. We covered some of the differences between the modern approach of scrying Aethyrs and the original function of the Aires, which was to serve as a powerful system of political and zodiacal magick. We also digressed into various topics related to Thelema and magick in general.
Congratulations again!
ReplyDeleteBig up for your hoast as well for coming up with that QR or link idea to add to your books because I had been asking for such videos ages ago :D
Bookshop.org sounds amazing to me, especially since I passionately despise that one big corporation. Too bad only your second Enochian volume is available there because I want to get all three of them at once (and I don't want to have to pay the corporation for them).
Oh and on spot with "buy my books" ;)
Thanks! The QR code thing is a really good idea that I hadn't previously considered. But it would be really helpful.
ReplyDeleteBookshop does have all three of my books.
Heptarchy: https://bookshop.org/books/mastering-the-mystical-heptarchy/9781936922048
Great Table: https://bookshop.org/books/mastering-the-great-table-volume-ii-of-the-mastering-enochian-magick-series/9781936922659
Thirty Aires: https://bookshop.org/books/mastering-the-thirty-aires/9781936922963
They generally have most stuff, but their search engine is a little dodgy.
Cool! Thanks! Bookmarked it and awaiting for the first opportunity to get all three of them.
ReplyDeleteAlmost forgot to add this: I think people can become more proficient in regards to the pronunciation of Angelic by listening to audio books of Tolkien's works, some of which are freely available. For example, here's a link to part of the Silmarillion audiobook which can be found in whole on that channel. One would only have to look up the names they encounter within the book and compare their audio pronunciation with respect to vowels and consonants with the way they're written and apply that to Angelic names. I found this as a very good exercise for pronouncing Angelic words even though I had been using the non altered version all along, ever since I understood your explanations surrounding pronunciation https://youtu.be/UbRNXg0AAeQ
ReplyDeleteI never have tried that, but I can see where it could be useful. It will help you become more familiar with consonant combinations that are uncommon in English, which will help with all the odd consonant combinations in Angelic.
ReplyDeleteYea, a more Germanic/Norse pronunciation of the letters would allow for an easier pronunciation of the words themselves, instead of the usual way Americans in particular pronounce.
ReplyDeleteHmm it appears I can't buy from bookshop.org if I don't live in the US?! I think they don't ship overseas... I've sent them an email asking about that. Too bad though...
ReplyDeleteBtw, your book is not the only one just about the Mystical Heptarchy of John Dee, as there was a book called The Heptarchia Mystica of John Dee by Robert Turner, published in England in1986. In fact I think you even mention it in your bibliography.
ReplyDeleteThe edition that Turner put out of the Heptarchia in 1986 is not about the Heptarchia, it *is* the Heptarchia as assembled by Dee in 1588. If you want a copy of the grimoire as Dee arranged it with notes and so forth, that's the one you want to get. If you also have the Peterson Five Books of Mystery, which are the sources the Heptarchia was created from, it's neat to compare the two and see how Dee rearranged the text.
ReplyDeleteThat is too bad about BookShop. I never have tried ordering anything from them overseas, but it sounds like that does not work for some reason.
ReplyDeleteI've got an answer from them and they definitely don't ship abroad. Unfortunate indeed...
ReplyDeleteBtw, and kinda off topic, here's a small paragraph from a scholastic paper on Arab practices of commanding demons and jinn:
"Further, according to Qazwīnī it was widely known that the jinn obeyed Ṭabasī. He
illustrates this with the following anecdote. One day the famed religious scholar Ghazālī
asked Ṭabasī to reveal the jinn to him. Ṭabasī consented and Ghāzālī reported that he saw
them as though they were a shadow on the wall. Ghazālī then requested to speak directly to
them and to hear their speech; to this Ṭabasī replied, 'You are not capable of seeing more
of them than this.'”
Forr all them experts who insist one MUST see the spirits :)) The explanations continue by saying Gazali wasn't able to see the spirits more allegedly because he wasn't a master of the art. But this paper was written by a scholar and not a magician, so clearly the author did not know he needed to specify which art - conjuring spirits, or seeing them, or both.
I'm only adding this link because the channel owner pronounces the names in a very Tolkienian way, the video is short, and the best thing is the names actually appear in writing which makes it very easy for everyone to see how each letter is to be pronounced, which in turn applies very much with respect to Angelic imo https://youtu.be/zYL-PONoTgw
ReplyDeleteMy folks are vacationing in the US atm and they bought me all three of your Enochian books from bookshop. Woohoo!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Glad you were able to get ahold of those.
ReplyDeleteYep, will post a review once I get my hand on them.
ReplyDeleteGreat, that is much appreciated!
ReplyDelete@scott, am I correct in assuming that the enochian forum has been closed, as I've sent a few messages there, which haven't appeared on the forum list? Many thanks.
ReplyDeleteNo, I approve everything that I see in the moderation queue for the forum in addition to comments on articles. If blogger is losing posts I have no idea what might be going on. Feel free to post again and hopefully I will see them this time.
