Solar Uncrossing and Protection Ritual

I have had a few questions about uncrossing rituals lately, and my usual practice is to refer folks to Andreih Vitimus' St. Michael Uncrossing / Wall of Protection. This article includes two separate approaches which have been found effective by many practitioners. It's a really good ritual.

However, Andrieh's use of the ceremonial forms in "variant two" is a little bit different from the way I use ceremonial forms, so I rewrote it a bit into the version that I am presenting here for students interested in employing my ceremonial methods. It still calls on Michael, but also Nakhiel, the Intelligence of the Sun from Agrippa. I've added some of the standard Comselh Ananael forms as well, such as our refuge in the opening and dedication in the closing, and of course the operant field.

The other bit I've added is calling on Michael and Nakhiel to empower a talisman that will continue to work over time - in effect an "always on" uncrossing linked to the person targeted by the operation. The talisman should be of a solar nature - gold (or brass or copper as a substitute), topaz, chrysolith, sunstone, or something similar. So far I only have used this version of the ritual a few times, but as far as I can tell it works well.

The ritual should ideally be performed in the day and hour of the Sun for a single operation. Any day and time with a Sun chart victor is ideal as well, though keep in mind that Sun and Moon as chart victors are rarer than the other five ancient planets. It can be done as a seven-day or longer sequence as well, in which case it should be done during the hour of the Sun on each day. For the first rite in the sequence or a single operation, observe simple electional timing. The first rite starts the sequence and sets the tone for subsequent operations.

Now all that being said, sometimes you just need to get something like this done and you can't wait for the perfect time. Under situations like that, try to hit the hour of the Sun and go from there. There are several Sun hours every day, so one of them should work.

The altar should be set up as follows: Cover a small plate with salt. Sprinkle a small amount of cinnamon onto the salt. Table salt and regular cinnamon spice will work fine. Place the character of the Sun with the sigils of Michael and Nakhiel, drawn on paper, on top of that. You can use properly colored inks as per Liber 777 (orange, golden yellow, rich amber, amber rayed red) but orange marker or something similar will suffice.

You can also print out this diagram and trace over it with something like orange hi-liter. This should be placed in the center of the plate on top of the salt. Place six tea lights around the perimeter of the plate.

Place a seven-day candle on the top edge of the paper bearing the character and sigils. This can be an actual St. Michael candle or a plain orange one. Sprinkle a little more of the cinnamon onto the wax of the seven-day candle to dress it. This creates a contagion link between the candle and the salt. If you are familiar with Hoodoo practices and want to do some additional candle dressing appropriate to an uncrossing ritual you would do that here. Andrieh includes a recipe for uncrossing oil in his article.

Finally, you will need a magical link to yourself or the target of your spell such as a photograph. This should be placed directly over the paper bearing the character and sigils. If the photograph is of yourself, you can put a drop of blood or saliva on it as a DNA link. You can do the same with the talisman and then place it on top of the photograph. Finally, light all the candles and you are ready to start.

This ritual can be performed by an individual magician or with group. An individual operator will read all the parts, whereas in a group one person will be the Officiant and the other participants will follow along.

I. Opening

Officiant performs the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram or banishing Star Ruby.

Officiant: We take refuge in Nuit, the blue-lidded daughter of sunset, the naked brilliance of the volutuous night sky, as we issue the call to the awakened nature of all beings, for every man and every woman is a star.

All: MAKASHANaH

Officiant: We take refuge in Hadit, the secret flame that burns in every heart of man and in the core of every star, as we issue the call to our own awakened nature, arousing the coiled serpent about to spring.

All: ABRAHADABRA

Officiant: We take refuge in Heru-Ra-Ha, who wields the wand of double power, the wand of the force of Coph Nia, but whose left hand is empty for he has crushed an universe and naught remains, as we united our own awakened natures with those of all being everywhere and everywhen, dissolving all obstacles and healing all suffering.

All: AUMGN

Officiant: For pure will, unassuaged of purpose and delivered from the lust of result is every way perfect.

All: All is pure and present and has always beens so, for existence is pure joy, all the sorrows are but as shadows, they pass and are done, but there is that which remains. To this realization we commit ourselves – pure and total presence. So mote it be.

Bell Chime.

II. The Operant Field

Officiant performs the Lesser Invoking Ritual of the Hexagram or invoking Star Sapphire.

Officiant: In the Beginning there was Naught, and Naught spake unto Naught saying: Let us beget on the Nakedness of our Nothingness the Limitless, Eternal, Identical, and United: And without will, intention, thought, word, desire, or deed, it was so.

All: Then in the depths of Nothingness hovered the Limitless, as a raven in the night; seeing naught, hearing naught, and understanding naught: neither was it seen, nor heard, nor understood; for as yet Countenance beheld not Countenance.

Officiant performs the Middle Pillar or Elevenfold Seal.

Officiant: And as the Limitless stretched forth its wings, an unextended unextendable Light became; colourless, formless, conditionless, effluent, naked, and essential, as a crystalline dew of creative effulgence; and fluttering as a dove betwixt Day and Night, it vibrated forth a lustral Crown of Glory.

All: O Thou Unity of all things: as the sun that rolleth through the twelve mansions of the skies, so art Thou, O God our God. We cannot slay Thee, for Thou art everywhere; lo! though we lick up the Boundless Light, the Boundless, and the Not, there still shall we find Thee, Thou Unity of Unities, Thou Oneness, O Thou perfect Nothingness of Bliss!

Bell Chime.

III. The Conjuration

Officiant performs the Greater Invoking Ritual of the Hexagram for the Path of the Sun. For this ritual use the unicursal hexagram traced from top point clockwise, hexagram in orange, sun symbol in blue, with godname ALAH. Officiant then recites the conjuration:

MICHAEL (x6). Come unto us, great and mighty angel of SHEMESH, by the name of the exalted god ALAH. Send unto us NAKHIEL, that great intelligence of thine, that he may answer our behest.

Pause until the presence of MICHAEL is sensed.

NAKHIEL (x6). Come unto us, thou brilliant intelligence of SHEMESH, by the name of the great angel Michael. Appear before us now, within this table of art, and attend to our behest.

All vibrate the two names - MICHAEL, NAKHIEL. When Officiant senses the manifestation has strengthened sufficiently, he or she rings the Bell Chime and the chant stops.

IVa. The Uncrossing Charge

Officiant: Michael and Nakhiel, by the name of the great god ALAH we call upon you to drive all negative influences, blockages, obstacles, and all forms of crossed conditions afflicting [Person's Name] into the salt, which will neutralize and contain them.

All sit down on cushions or in chairs and start the chant again - Michael, Nakhiel. If you have a mala or prayer beads, go ahead and use them. The movement of the beads helps to engage body, speech, and mind. As you do this, visualize all negativity being driven into the salt with the help of the angel and the intelligence. The visualization here is my paraphrase from Andrieh's ritual, which you can review if any of it is unclear:

Visualize an intense beam of orange light projecting from the 7-day candle into the magical link to the person. If the magical link represents you, see the beam simultaneous connect with you where you are sitting. It should strike the top of your head and then travel straight down through the center of your body and into the ground. At first the beam will be narrow and intense like a laser beam. Get this visualization as solid as you can as you chant.

Once the visualization of the beam itself is stable, begin to work on increasing its thickness. As the beam becomes thicker it will slowly encompass more and more of your body (or the visualized body of your target). Go slowly with this and don't rush it. You should be able to feel the beam expand naturally as blockages and negativity are driven into the salt. The visualization should reflect the sensations in your body.

Once the beam encompasses your entire body or that of the target, keep going. It should extend outward to encompass external spirits, attachments, or spellwork associated with the person. The method is the same as with yourself or the target person's body. Keep expanding the beam from the center outward, especially if it feels like you are encountering pushback or obstacles.

When working with my operant field method, the outward expansion is accomplished by expanding the thickness of the beam until it eventually reaches the boundary of your operant field (the imaginary circle bounded by the pentagram and hexagram rituals). As the operant field represents the union of the microcosm and macrocosm, the beam can seamlessly expand to fill the field and do its work.

Andreih recommends spending about an hour a day on his ritual, and it should be done for 7 or 30 days. I am of the opinion that the operant field makes this process more efficient, as I've been able to get results with shorter sessions - maybe 30-40 minutes total for the whole ritual. The caveat there is that since I don't have a very large data set, I may not have encountered a condition as serious as what you are working with.

So if it feels like a shorter session isn't getting the job done, go with the full hour. Also, note that I've only done the seven-day version, the duration of the seven-day candle which I leave burning the entire time. The tea lights are replaced each session, but I allow them to burn out naturally as they don't last a full day. You can go ahead with the thirty day version as per Andreih's article if it feels necessary.

IVb. The Talisman Charge

Officiant: Michael and Nakhiel, by the name of the great god ALAH I hearby call upon you to enchant and empower this talisman with the power raised and manipulated by this rite, that it may constantly perform this same function on an active, day-to-day basis - driving out negative influences, blockages, obstacles, and all forms of crossed conditions from [Person's Name] and protecting them from the same.

Anchor the function of this uncrossing and protection operation within this talisman, which will consume and transform negative influences, blockages, obstacles, and all forms of crossed conditions afflicting [Person's Name] to sustain itself. I call upon you to accomplish this immediately, perfectly, and completely by the name of the great god ALAH. By the name of the great god ALAH, AMEN.

All: So mote it be.

Pause for a moment to allow for empowerment of the talisman. For a multi-day series, deliver this charge every day along with performing the full uncrossing visualization.

V. License to Depart

Officiant: MICHAEL and NAKHIEL, by the name of the great god ALLA we hereby license thee to depart unto thy proper place; without causing harm or danger unto man or beast. We charge thee to withdraw peaceably and quietly, and peace be ever continued between us. There is success.

All: So mote it be!

Bell Chime.

VI. Dedication

All: May the benefit of this act and all acts be dedicated to the complete liberation and supreme enlightenment of all beings everywhere, pervading space and time. So mote it be. May the benefits of practice, ours and others, come to fruition instantly and immediately, and we remain in a state of presence. AH!

VII. Closing

If this ritual is part of a multi-day series, Officiant closes with the Qabalistic Cross only. For the final operation in the series, Officiant closes with the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram or banishing Star Ruby.

Bell Chime.

At the conclusion of the final operation, the salt should be disposed of at a crossroads along with an appropriate offering such as rum.

Brilliant! I have a few technical questions though:

1. Why not call on Sorath too? The spirit will work under the guidance of Michael and Nakiel and will accomplish things much easier in the eathly plane. Or in the lower astral.

2. You use the path of the Sun, yet you said Michael, archangel of Tiphareth. Is that a typo, or was it written on purpose, in which case, why?

3. Do you find the unicursal hexagram to work better for the Sun than the standard Liber O one?

4. Wouldn't the charge be split between the person and the talisman?

5. Why the need for meditation and visualization during the ritual? I mean, yeah the visualization can add more oomph to the operation, but why meditation? (In case I didn't misread anything - it's late here and I'm so sleepy LOL). I mean one can meditate after the ritual and inthe daysthat follow, in order to get to the possible causes of their crossed condition, which would in turn help deal with the psychological factor of the condition.

6. Why the need to make it a more than one-ritual working? I mean the talisman should provide enough help after the first ritual - again, in case I must've missed something, and my phone takes me to a different window when I'm writing comments, so i can't re-read you article right now, otherwise thhe window in which I'm currently writing will refresh on its own and all my text will be gone.

Thank you!

My thinking here is that crossed conditions are less about explicit material events. Also, to a degree this follows the Agrippa direction of "intelligence for good, spirit for bad." That's not quite how I use them, but I found it appropriate here.

You're right, actually. It should be angel of Shemesh. I'll change that bit.

In this case I'm using the elemental aspects of the unicursal, so Sun is from the top point clockwise. The elemental form is to bring the energy "down" more effectively into lower Yetzirah, below the Veil of Paroketh. Crossed conditions are sort of "etheric" or "lower astral." They're close to the material realm, but not of it.

The thought would be no, or not to as great a degree as if they were two separate charges. They're the same charge, on done in real time and the other on the talisman. But feel free to experiment, as always. I like this one a lot, but my sample size for using it is small.

The meditation is adapted from Andreih's ritual. The thought here is it's sort of "showing the angel what to do" instead of telling it. Trying to put that whole visualization into a written-out charge would be quite long. Also, the meditation deals with anything going on now, the talisman starts working for the future.

The idea is that a longer series will make the effect stronger. But you could do it as a single operation too, in which case your first operation is also your final operation.

Along the same lines, I'd be interested to see an article (or articles) detailing the binding of spirits and detailing exorcism/driving out spirits from a place.
My inclination would be to use a Saturnian or Martian planetary ritual (and maybe there's a good zodiacal option, but I'd have to look at the powers). But I suspect that for these there are alternate approaches, as is the case with uncrossing. Anyway, I'm happy to see this one posted, thanks!

Scott Stenwick said...

Generally speaking Saturn is going to work better than Mars in that context if you are talking planetary work. Saturn rules bindings and endings. You can attack a spirit using Mars, but you are more likely to end it, end its influence, or get it to leave an area with Saturn.

Better still, bind your Saturn charge into a talisman so that once the spirit leaves it can't come back. Spirits returning in force after a blessing or exorcism is such a cliché in paranormal stories that I find it hard believe it doesn't happen at least some of the time.

Regarding the disposal at a crossroad how do you do it, just dispose to the grownd with rum on it or say something or put on a plate etc??

Many thanks

Scott Stenwick said...

There is not much complexity to the disposal. Pour the salt, declare that the rum is an offering to the spirits of the crossroads, and then pour the rum. Pretty basic.

II. The Operant Field

If i understand correctly, since we do the analysis of the keyword with the (lesser)Ritual of Hexagram,we don't need to do it with the Greater ritual of the hexagram?

Until the ritual is finish (ex: 7 day) we close with the Qabalistic Cross only.

When the ritual is finish, we do the Lbrp , but did we do the analysis of the keyword again since we only do it at the start with the (lesser) Ritual of Hexagram?

Thank!

Steven

Scott Stenwick said...

1. Yes, that is how I generally do it. Keyword Analysis to open and close the LIRH, no Keyword Analysis with the GIRH - just the proper hexagram to the four quarters with ARARITA and the corresponding godname.

2. Yes, for a ritual series like this you "seal" it with the Qabalistic Cross only between sessions and save the full LBRP for the end of the whole series.

3. No, I don't ever do the Keyword Analysis with the closing LBRP, either before or after. The regular LBRP is entirely sufficient.
