Presenting at EnochiaCon 2026

Crossposted from my author website with this new promotional video.

In a couple weeks I will be presenting at EnochiaCon 2026 in Austin, TX. Click the link to find out more and register for the convention. The conference is specifically dedicated to various aspects of the Enochian tradition, and this is my first time presenting at it. I am looking forward to what promises to be an enlightening and enjoyable weekend.

My topic is “Enochian Wealth Magick: Working With the Cacodemons of Metals and Precious Stones.” The cacodemons are entities whose names can be extracted from the Great Table, and as the name suggests they generally have negative connotations. The Cacodemons of Medicine, for example, can be called on to cause illnesses. But the Cacodemons of Metals and Precious Stones are different.

The Angels of Metals and Precious Stones, their “positive” counterpart, are called on to find the location of ore-veins and other valuable natural resources. The Cacodemons are said to “bring you the money, coined.” This may be framed as negative because of the idea that making money was somehow unholy, but it is not a direct reversal of the Angels’ power.

Almost 25 years ago I decided to see if this was really true. I conjured them up and instructed them to increase the value of my investments at the time. It worked so well I kept doing it with good results. The ritual I will be presenting does exactly that – it is designed to make all of us rich.

Dee was explicitly told not to work with the cacodemons, even though they work just fine for me. I have an idea why, and I will be covering that in my presentation that will precede the ritual. Hope to see you there!

The Enochian Great Table - Babalon Rising 2026

This year I offered four presentations at the Babalon Rising Festival in Springville, Indiana. I have decided to post those presentation here on the blog for the general public and anyone who attended the festival but was unable to make it to my talks due to scheduling issues. If you are interested in seeing presentations like this in a festival setting, I highly recommend the Babalon Rising Festival. It happens every year during the second weekend in June. This presentation is an updated version of this earlier presentation that I gave at Leaping Laughter Lodge in 2014. It covers material from my book Mastering the Great Table and walks through how I do evocations of the various Great Table spirits.

The Enochian magical system of Dr. John Dee and scryer Edward Kelley has inspired ritual magicians for centuries. Dee’s spirit diaries were first published in 1659 by Meric Causaubon, a clergyman who sought to discredit personal spiritual revelations by making the case that even John Dee, one of the most intelligent men of his age, was nonetheless taken in by evil spirits. Causaubon’s sixty-page preface to this effect was mostly ignored, but his edition of the diaries, A True and Faithful Relation of What Passed for Many Years Between Dr. John Dee and Some Spirits (normally abbreviated TFR by modern magicians) made Dee’s work available to an audience for the first time.

By 1700 the first attempt to integrate the Dee material into the canon of Western magick was published as the Treatise on Angel Magic, attributed to one "Dr. Rudd." In this volume we find some curious attributions that were passed on by early Enochian authors, such as attempts to mix Goetic and Enochian spirits. While there is some overlap between Enochian and Goetic practitioners, the two systems in fact have nothing to do with each other. That did not stop Rudd, though, from creating his own versions of implements such as the seven Ensigns of Creation that added Goetic spirit names to Dee’s designs. His Table of Art is also an odd synthesis of Dee’s Holy Table and other magical containment structures of the period.

The most famous system of Enochian magick was developed by the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn in the late nineteenth century. The Golden Dawn system was influential enough that for much of the twentieth century it was what everyone thought of as Enochian magick. Aleister Crowley’s version was derived from the Golden Dawn version and similar enough that it was essentially a dialect of the system. But in the 1970’s and 1980’s Enochian magicians started going back to the original sources, most of which were maintained by the British Museum. Today these documents are available as online scans, making Dee’s original work more widely available than ever before.

Cognitive Dissonance?

In the past I have been highly critical of "meltdown stories" involving Enochian magick. The story goes that there is something specific about Enochian that makes it highly dangerous to a person's mental health, and many people allegedly develop mental health problems after working with it. I personally have worked with the system for decades using the methods published in my Mastering Enochian Magick series and never have encountered anything like that, and I can't say that any of my students have either. But I recently heard a bit of information that might suggest something about what could be going on with those narratives.

Magick and mental illness have very little in common. Despite some superficial features - for example, schizophrenic auditory hallucinations versus communicating with spirits - it is not the case that magicians are in some sense working effectively with states of consciousness that might otherwise be pathological. If you spend any time at all with schizophrenic people, it becomes pretty clear that the famous Joseph Cambbell quote, "The psychotic drowns in the same waters in which the mystic swims with delight" is not even remotely accurate. About the only thing psychosis and mysticism have in common is that they both involve altered states of consciousness, and all alterations of consciousness are not the same.

It is also difficult to build causal relationships between mental illness and any sort of practice, spiritual or otherwise, because between a quarter and a third of our population has some form of mental illness. While there are of course mentally ill people in the magical community, I have never seen any valid statistical evidence pointing to the incidence being anywhere near as high as a quarter to a third. If the rates are the same between magical practitioners and the general population, you can't conclude that magick of any sort somehow causes mental illness. This is the main reason I remain skeptical of the alleged Enochian meltdown narrative.

What is true is that people who develop delusions generally develop them in the context of their lives and activities. A person who practices magick and develops paranoid scizophrenia is likely to have delusions about magical ideas, like evil magicians or spirits attacking them. A fundamentalist Christian is likely to have the same delusions about demons. A person who grew up around UFOlogists is likely to have those delusions about aliens. And a person without exposure to any of these alternative communities is probably going to develop them about secret government agencies or law enforcement.

The Enochian Master Class is Back!

A number of years ago I put together a set of videos for an Enochian Master Class organized by Jason Augustus Newcomb. In addition to adding his own set of videos, he enlisted Aaron Leitch to provide a set as well. The class was unavailable for quite some time, but you can now enroll here. Note that Jason hosts the class, so if you run into any technical issues with it he's the person to contact.

As you probably know from reading Augoeides, the three of us disagree on a number of issues related to the Enochian system - and that's a good thing! Enochian is a complex topic, and it is very helpful to sample a wide variety of opinions on the subject in order to learn as much as you can about it. I obviously work with the system the way I do because I have found that way to work best for me over the years, and I assume the same about Jason and Aaron.

Jason mostly sticks with the "Neo-Enochian" Golden Dawn/Thelemic system. Aaron addresses Enochian from the "Dee Purist" standpoint, looking only at the Dee spirit diaries. And I wind up somewhere in the middle, working with "Dee Purist" diary attributions but also including modern forms like pentagram and hexagram rituals corresponding to those attributions. Between the three of us, we cover most of the approaches to the system that you are likely to come across.

Purchasing the course will give you access to all three sets of videos so you can compare and contrast them on their relative merits. Each of us have provided videos on the following topics:

  1. THE HISTORY OF PRACTICE
  2. THE NATURE OF SPIRITS
  3. SETTING UP THE TEMPLE
  4. PRAYERS AND CONJURATIONS
  5. SCRYING AND EVOCATION
  6. PRACTICAL MAGICAL OPERATIONS
  7. INDIVIDUAL ADVICE FROM EACH PRACTITIONER

As some of the videos were long enough to be broken up into two parts, this makes for a total of 23 videos with perspectives from three experienced practitioners with very different takes on the system. It's well worth it if you want to become an expert on the Enochian system and are looking to explore it thoroughly. Also note that along with book sales, proceeds I receive from class enrollments help to support all the free material posted at Augoeides. If you value what I do here, consider enrolling (and buying books) to help keep it all going.

What Magic is This? Podcast Interview

I recently sat down for a discussion with Douglas Batchelor and Cliff Wigtil on Enochian magick for the What Magic is This? podcast. It was a good introductory discussion that covered how the system was received, how it works, and some of the nonsense about it in that has seeped into popular magical culture. If you're interested in Enochian but not sure where to start, this discussion should prove helpful in that regard. If you have questions after listening, feel free to post them here and I'll do my best to answer them.

Enjoy!

Praxis Behind the Obscure Interview

Yesterday evening I sat down with Ryan at Praxis Behind the Obscure to discuss Mastering the Thirty Aires. We covered some of the differences between the modern approach of scrying Aethyrs and the original function of the Aires, which was to serve as a powerful system of political and zodiacal magick. We also digressed into various topics related to Thelema and magick in general.

MASTERING THE THIRTY AIRES SEPTEMBER 22ND!

All of you have been so patient with me on this, and believe me, I appreciate it. It's finally time. Mastering the Thirty Aires will be released September 22nd. Not next year, this year. Like in three days. If you want to pre-order from Amazon, you can do so here.

Mastering the Thirty Aires is Book III of my Mastering Enochian Magick series and covers the system of the Aires or Aethyrs, the final major component of the Enochian magical system received and documented by John Dee and Edward Kelley in the 1580's. As with the previous two books in the series, I stick with attributions drawn from the Dee diaries themselves but also include various modern techniques such as pentagram and hexagram rituals within the context of a straight-forward ritual template.

The original system of the Aires or Aethyrs was not intended to serve as a sort of scrying map for "rising on the planes" and the like. It certainly can be used in this way, and Aleister Crowley did so to great effect as recorded in The Vision and the Voice. The original intent was for the system to be a complex and highly powerful system of political magick. The various Aires are linked to particular Parts of the Earth, and by opening the corresponding Aire followed by the corresponding Part, the magician can influence events within that region.

The system is interlinked with zodiacal attributions, and thus can be thought of as the zodiacal portion of the Enochian material, with the Heptarchia Mystica comprising the planetary portion and the system of the Great Table the elemental portion. Thus, with the release of this book, my Enochian series now covers the full set of fundamental qualities employed in the practive of the Western magical tradition.

Again, thank you all for hanging in there. It's been a long road getting here, and I hope you all will find that it was worth the wait.

The Magick.TV Interview

Yesterday I sat down for an interview with the folks at Magick.TV. We talked about my experience with Enochian magick, the approach I take to teaching it in my books, and the differences between how common ritual forms are traditionally taught and my operant field method.

My thanks go out to the folks at the channel - it was a fun interview and hopefully one that will prove informative to viewers as they develop their magical practices.

Enjoy!

Enochian Magick Chat

This video is a chat on Enochian magick that I recorded awhile back for the Practicing Magic Faceboook group. The original plan was to stream it live, but we had some technical difficulties and had to record it.

In the chat I discuss some of the basics of Enochian magick, what I like about practicing it, and how I got started - a long time ago at this point! I also talk about my approach to Enochian and how it compares to the approaches of other practitioners.

Enjoy!

Magick Without Fears Interview

This last Thursday I sat down the Magick Without Fears podcast for an interview that covered a lot of material related to my magical work, Enochian and otherwise. I was trying to figure out how to do a direct link to it, but that's turned out to be more work than I expected so I'm just linking to the main page. You can click here or on the image to get to the site where you can listen to the interview. This was another fun conversation - it's always nice to connect with other practitioners and share notes, even virtually.

Enjoy!

Praxis Behind The Obscure Interview

Yesterday I sat down for an interview with the Praxis Behind The Obscure podcast and covered a bunch of stuff related to my Enochian work and magick in general, plus my current ideas about consciousness and scientific approaches to magick. It was a good talk - give it a listen.

Since I mention it on the podcast, I'm in the process of working with my publisher to get the final technical issues resolved with Mastering the Thirty Aires, which means it should be out soon now. I know I've said that before and I apologize for the delays getting it out, but the book is going to be worth the wait.

Enjoy!

Heptarchia Mystica Presentation Transcript

The following is my prepared transcript for the Heptarchia Mystica talk that I delivered yesterday for OTO Austria. For this one I actually put together a rudimentary PowerPoint presentation, and the slide images are embedded in the text. It was a fun presentation to do and my thanks go out to the folks at OTO Austria for inviting me to speak and making this happen.

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

Welcome to my presentation on Dr. John Dee’s Heptarchia Mystica. I am Scott Stenwick, author of Mastering the Mystical Heptarchy from Pendraig Publishing.

Mastering the Mystical Heptarchy is a practical guide to working with the mystical heptarchy, an often-overlooked portion of John Dee and Edward Kelley’s system of Enochian magick. I have been an OTO initiate since 1995 and have served as a chartered initiator, ordained priest and deacon, local body officer, and currently as Master of Leaping Laughter Lodge in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I have been involved in OTO for almost 25 years, but I had already worked with the Enochian system for years before I joined.

The way that I approach Enochian magick developed over several decades. I started with the Schueler books in the early 1990s and quickly moved on from there to a more “Dee Purist” approach based on Geoffrey James’ Enochian Evocation. At the same time, though, I did not entirely abandon modern ceremonial methods like pentagram and hexagram rituals. What you will find in my books are ritual templates that allow you to work according to the original grimoire structure based solely on prayers and conjurations, but also show where those modern ceremonial forms can optionally be added to the process. This gives the practitioner greater flexibility to approach the work as they see fit.

Heptarchia Mystica Presentation for OTO Austria

Tomorrow, July 11th, at noon CDT I will be presenting on the Heptarchia Mystica for OTO Austria. The presentation will be on Zoom, so you can join in too. I will be covering the basics of Heptarchial magick, the only portion of the Enochian magical system that Dr. John Dee assembled into a usable grimoire and also the subject of my first published occult title, Mastering the Mystical Heptarchy. There will be some time for questions after the presentation - and yes, just in case anybody is wondering, I'll be presenting in English. I do speak some German but not nearly enough to put together a decent presentation in it.

Click here to go to the Facebook event. The link to register is at the bottom of the description. It sounds like you do need to register ahead of time, so if you want to catch the presentation please go ahead and do that. You can also go to the OTO Austria page and scroll down - they have the event listed there as well. This should be a fun one and I'm really looking forward to it.

Thanks to the folks at OTO Austria for inviting me to present and making this happen!

The Rufus Opus Interview

Cross-posted from my author website.

Back in May of 2017 I was interviewed by fellow magick blogger Rufus Opus as part of his ongoing interview series. We mostly covered esoteric topics related to my non-fiction works on Enochian magick, though I got a couple mentions of the fiction in there as well.

If you're interested in hearing more of my thoughts on Enochian magick you can sign up for the Seven-Day Enochian Master Class by clicking on the image to the right.

It was a great conversation, and you can click on the embedded YouTube link above to listen. Enjoy!

Enochian Master Class Now Available!

Back in April I participated in this Seven Day Enochian Master Class organized by Jason Augustus Newcomb. I am pleased to announce that this class now has a permanent home, and you can sign up and take it any time you would like. The link to sign up is here, or you can just click on the image above.

Assembled here are some of the greatest living practitioners and thinkers on the subjects of Enochian Magick. All of these teachers have strong personal opinions, strong track records of practical work, and strong research into the history and practices of occultism in general.

In today's world, what often passes for occult teachings is from people with little or any practical knowledge of what they go on and on about on YouTube or other social media. This is not going to be the imaginings of dreamers or charlatans but rather the intimate experiences of those who have walked these paths for decades.

You are going to get an intimate view of how these practitioners approach these practices in a way that will enrich you and empower to move forward in the best way for you! You are not going to see one point of view here, but rather the unvarnished opinions of a bunch of different magical viewpoints about these magical systems.

In this video class you will hear from myself, Jason Augustus Newcomb, and Aaron Leitch with our thoughts on the Enochian system. You can see where we agree, where we disagree, and what our perspectives are on how the system works and what it can be used to accomplish. The videos are a little raw because they were recorded live without editing, but that also gives them a sense of immediacy that you won't find in more polished presentations.

These are the only video presentations on Enochian that I have done to date, so this is a unique opportunity to hear my thoughts and experiences presented in this format. By signing up and taking the class you will also be helping to support the rest of my work here on Augoeides, and if you come away from the class with questions feel free to ask them on my Enochian Magick Forum page.

Mastering the Thirty Aires Submitted!

We seem to have survived the latest Nibiru Rapture in order to allow me to make an important announcement to fans of my Enochian books. Yeah, that's totally the reason! It's kind of like an Enochian Entirely-Other-Than-Apocalypse - so take that, Donald Tyson! Anyway, this is cross-posted from my author website.

It took a lot longer than I ever expected, but my draft manuscript for Mastering the Thirty Aires has finally been submitted to my publisher. Editing and book production usually run around six months or so, which means that the book should be available sometime next fall.

Mastering the Thirty Aires completes my trilogy of books on the mostly-Dee-purist-with-some-additions system of Enochian magick that I have worked out over the last twenty-five years. It focuses on practical results, and uses what I consider the best interpretation of the material in the Dee diaries for attributions and powers of the all the spirits and other components of the system. It deals with how to use the Aires and Parts of the Earth to effect political change, and also includes some valuable and practical material on zodiacal magick.

I'm looking forward to making this final piece of my base Enochian system available to the public, and will keep you all posted when I have a release date. Thanks for your patience, and I think you will like the final result very much.

Mastering the Thirty Aires

This week I'm skipping my usual magick post, but I have a good reason. I'm focusing on putting the final touches on my manuscript for Mastering the Thirty Aires so I can hopefully get it off to Pendraig by the end of this week. That doesn't mean it will be out right away or anything like that - the editing and book production process generally takes months to get through. But it's a big step that I've been working on getting to for a long time now. It turn out out to be harder to write than the last two put together.

Mastering the Thirty Aires approaches the system of the Aires or Aethyrs from the original Dee perspective - as a system of political magick designed to influence the general affairs of the various portions of the world. It also touches on more modern practices like "rising on the planes" and so forth, but more from the perspective of giving you the information you need to do the work yourself rather than delving into detailed analysis that you can find in many other books. As with the first two installments in the series, it will include a detailed ritual template that you can use to construct your rituals without a bunch of guesswork. Also, it will touch on some of the basics of zodiacal magick in the context of the Enochian system of the Aires.

So I'm really looking forward to making this new book available, and completing my trilogy of Enochian books. I know that some of you have been waiting a long time for this to be released, and I hope that you will all find it worth the wait.
