Ritual Night Talk for February 8th

Here is the video of Tuesday's Ritual Night Talk, on the Elevenfold Seal. The donation link is here.

The Elevenfold Seal is a ritual that is part of another ritual - it serves as the opening and closing for Liber V vel Reguli, the most elaborate of Aleister Crowley's pentagram rituals. Over the years I have adapted the Elevenfold Seal into my daily magical practice and use it kind of like a lot of magicians use the Middle Pillar Ritual. It can serve the same function, calling the energies and qualities of the divine into your body of light and facilitating identification with the divine.

Enjoy!

Dear frater,
thank you for these ritual talks and blog posts. I've been getting good results with your operant field concept! I have a couple of questions:

1. Do you think it would be better to do the LIRH with the planetary hexagrams of the target planet to be invoked, instead of the invoking hexagrams of Saturn? I was doing it the usual way everybody does with the hexagram of Saturn and noticed a strong Saturnine influence building up, but I have avoided this by experimenting with using the hexagrams of the target planet instead. I wonder what your thoughts are about that.

2. Have you experimented with closing the ritual stack with a final LIRP, or do you have any thoughts about doing that?

Regards,
Josh Rout

1. No, because the point of the LRH is that it is general and explicitly elemental (but macrocosmic elemental, unlike the LRP). Also, in the Thelemic system a "lesser hexagram of a planet" is not even a thing. I first came across it in Griffin's book from 1999, and I'm not sure if it's any older than that since I'm not an initiate of any of the modern GD groups.

By all means experiment as you will, but as I see it a "lesser hexagram of a planet" doesn't even make sense. The Lesser/Greater nomenclature creates several confusing points - the GRP is not a "souped-up" LRP and the GRH is not a "souped-up" LRH. The Lesser and Greater rituals do entirely different things and I don't think much is to be gained by conflating or muddling that. But that's my experience - it's always possible yours could differ from mine.

2. No, because again, that doesn't really make sense to me. You conjure what you're conjuring, send it into the world, and disconnect from it so it can do it's work. Think of the same idea as "banishing by laughter" in chaos magick operations. I guess what you're proposing here would be conjure what you're conjuring, then connect yourself with the thing you conjured (whish is already connected to you)?

I suppose you could treat it as something like closing with a Qabalistic Cross, where you are trying to seal what you are conjuring into yourself, but since the QC works fine for that I would think it would unnecessary. For that reason I haven't really experimented with it, but it doesn't sound like the ritual stack would gain much from it.

Thank you for the clarification!
